8 Nail Polishes for Fall

Eight Fall Nail Polishes on Monogrammed Magnolias

One of my favorite ways to transition into Fall slowly (but surely, of course) is through my nail polish choices. Sure, it’s a subtle change from my usual picks throughout the warmer months but it definitely gets me in the spirit of the season.

I’m all about the dark colors and the deep reds but I also like to throw a nice green and a few neutrals in my repertoire. You can find my top picks in those categories and more down below, maybe you’ll see one of your old faithfuls or even find a new favorite! You can shop for each polish directly through the links.

Eight Fall Nail Polishes on Monogrammed Magnolias

1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8

Dark Polish

OPI Lincoln Park After Dark – My absolute favorite nail polish, hands down. I’m currently on my third bottle of this particular color which is unheard of when it comes to nail polishes. It looks very similar to polishes 4 and 8 pictured above but I can assure you that they are all very different. Lincoln Park is very purple but appears almost black on the nails. Perfect for Fall and Winter if you ask me.

Green Polish

Marc Jacobs 128 Nirvana – I must admit that what first drew me to this polish was the packaging. I just really like the bottle but it turns out that the color inside is actually pretty amazing. It’s a great forest green that’s colorful but unassuming at the same time. I mean that in the sense that you’re not going to get weird looks from peeps around the office for rocking this green on your fingers this season and that’s kind of a big deal.

Beige Polish

OPI Berlin there Done That – Not only is this a fantastic Fall neutral but it’s from a trusted brand and has a perfectly punny name. What more could a girl want in her nail polish?

Burgundy Polish

Nails Inc Kensington High Street – I’m a big fan of red fingernails but when it comes to the cooler months of Fall I tend to gravitate toward the deeper, warmer hues like this amazing oxblood polish. Plus, we all know oxblood is the on-trend color this season.

Red Polish

Formula X Curiosity – Did I mention I’m a big fan of red fingernails? Yeah, I just couldn’t resist throwing a classic in the mix. While this is still a classic red it does have that richness and warmth to it that just screams Fall.

Metallic Polish

Butter London All Hail the Queen – It just isn’t Fall without a warm metallic and this one combines the perfect amount of neutral & glitz. Plus, I have a soft spot in my heart for Butter London.

Navy Polish

Essie After School Boy Blazer – I went out and bought this polish after Carly from The College Prepster suggested it years ago…we even had a Twitter convo about it and I def fangirled. I’ve never looked back. It’s a seriously great color, such a classic navy that’s still sort of unexpected.

Purple Polish

OPI Infinite Shine Vampsterdam – I have to admit, I initially set out for a nice grey-beige to round out my neutrals but I just couldn’t find one that fit the bill completely for me so I decided to pull out an old favorite. Vampsterdam is an amazing purple and while it does appear similar to Lincoln Park After Dark and Kensington High Street above, it’s much more of a deep berry tone than those two.

Well there you have it, y’all. My top 8 Fall nail polishes. Like I said before you can shop all of these polishes directly through the links above. What are your favorite nail polishes for Fall? Let me know in the comments below and be sure to follow me on Twitter for more talk of all things Fall, I’m a bit obsessed.

Affordable Boots for Fall

Affordable Boots for Fall on Monogrammed Magnolias

Can ya feel it? That slight crispness to the air? It’s happening, y’all! Fall is near and that means one thing, it’s time to break out the fall fashion. In this case, we’re focusing on one of my favorite forms of fall fashion, boots but more importantly, affordable boots!

All of the boots featured in this guide are under $70, most of them are actually under $50 which is nearly unheard of when it comes to boots. I’ve taken things a step further and managed to break them down into two categories, short and tall, simple enough. You can shop everything through the link below.

Short Boots

Who doesn’t love a good ankle boot? I’m a bit fan of duck boots all the way through winter and the best part about these particular boots is that they are under $20! Oh and how freaking cute are those burgundy suede & leather buckle boots? Rounding out the group are a trio of neutral boots perfect for crunching leaves under and beautiful black leather ankle boots that everyone needs!

Duck Boots | Red Velvet | Peep Toe | Tassel Boots | Braided | Black Leather

Tall Boots

The boots I’m most looking forward to breaking out this season? Over the knee boots! Did anyone happen to catch the red velvet boots T-Swift was rocking at the Tommy Hilfiger #NYFW show this past weekend? They were to die for and the inspiration for the inclusion of these (totally affordable) Catherine Malandrino boots. Also, I threw in two pairs of Tommy Hilfiger rain boots because, well, why not? They’re both fabulous! Oh and cowboy boots under $40, you just can’t pass those things up.

Olympic Style: Team USA

Olympic Style Team USA on Monogrammed Magnolias

When I think of great American fashion, I can’t help but think of Ralph Lauren and apparently I’m not the only one. Mr. Lauren continued his streak of decking out Team USA in his designs this past weekend for the Olympic Opening Ceremony. I loved every minute of it, so much so that immediately afterward I was looking for cheaper alternatives to recreate the look because if you go by the retail prices…each member of #TeamUSA was wearing well over $1,000 in clothing during the parade of countries. While that might be fine for a 5 time Olympian (I’m looking at you, Michael Phelps), I’m hoping for something a bit more affordable.

The Blazer

Let’s start with the best part, the blazer! While the original design will set you back a pretty penny, there are plenty of ways to snag the tailored look without actually having to break the bank. Oh and minus that borderline obnoxious extra large polo pony.

The T-Shirt

Now in the original design the Olympians are wearing a t-shirt with thick red, white, and blue stripes. That’s not the easiest look to rock in my opinion so I’ve switched it up a bit here with thin stripes and even a basic white tee.

The Pants

Team USA just proved that everyone really does need a pair of really great white jeans in their wardrobe. Whether you’re sticking with the preppy vibes of Ralph or going a little more bohemian a la Rachel Zoe, white jeans are the way to go.

The Shoes

I love my country just as much as the next girl but I don’t know if I’ll be trying the whole red, white, and blue shoes anytime soon. However, I like the boat shoes look and how great would a pair of navy flats be with that blazer and those jeans?

The Accessories

No outfit is complete without accessories and no Olympic Games are complete without some Team USA gear, so let’s kill two birds with one stone so to speak.

What do you think of Team USA’s Olympic look? Let me know in the comments and don’t forget to follow me on Twitter for more Olympic fashion (and event commentary!).

Oh and one more thing…you can use code SHOPSTYLE for $40 off $200 at Kendra Scott now thru Aug. 13!

Back to School Roundup: Bags

Back to School Roundup: Bags on Monogrammed Magnolias

I hate to burst your bubble but it’s that time of year again…back to school! Love it or hate it, it’s happening so you might as well make the most of it. Half the battle is making sure you’re fully prepared for what’s in store so I’ve gathered together my top back to school bags.

In high school, I was strictly a tote bag girl mostly because I was a full blown Miss Priss and while not much has changed in that department I did switch to a backpack in college for practicality reasons, which is probably the opposite route compared to most. Personally, I’m a fan of both. For instance, my MWF classes in college were the worst, a jam packed schedule from eight to four. Those were my backpack days because believe me when I say it, a backpack will save your back when you are carrying five different textbooks, notebooks, folders, and a laptop. You don’t want all that breaking your Longchamp straps or worse your actual shoulders.

During my senior year, I had a much lighter schedule filled with small lectures and computer labs that mostly required a single notebook. That’s when the tote bag came in handy. It doubled as a purse so if I wanted to grab a bite to eat with my friends off campus I could leave straight after class without heading back to my dorm to drop off a load of books.

Oh and don’t think these bags are just for school, I’m definitely a fan of the backpack as a purse trend too. I’m all for the 10 Things I Hate About You vibes of carrying a tiny backpack to the mall, the 90s are coming back after all.

No matter your preference there’s a bag to fit your needs from Tory B to BP. and everything in between, you’re sure to find the perfect bag for you. Oh, one more thing, shop fast because some of these picks are currently in the #NSale and prices go up August 8th!

Sole Society Backpack | Tory Burch Buckle Tote | Rebecca Minkoff Backpack (doubles as a crossbody | Tory Burch Backpack | Street Level Tote | Jansport Backpack | Longchamp Tote | Neiman Marcus Backpack | BP. Drawstring Tote

Cheers to an incredible school year, ladies! Oh and don’t forget to follow Monogrammed Magnolias on Facebook as I’ll be sharing more #BackToSchool sales and trends over there.

The Summer Trend You Need ASAP

Summer Trend You Need ASAP on Monogrammed Magnolias

I’ve been a fan of fun summer trends since the days of sparkly jelly sandals. Don’t act like you didn’t get in on that one too. These days, though, the trends are a bit more practical than plastic footwear without compromising on the fun. Care to take a guess as to what trend I’m talking about exactly?

None of other than…pompom detailing, of course!

I don’t know about you but I cannot get enough of these fuzzy little guys. I want them everywhere, from my closet, living room, even my outdoor space! The great part about this trend is that my dreams can all come true. Just check out the awesome selection I’ve gathered here.

Pompom Everything

1.  Missguided Pompom Play Suit – This all white off-the-shoulder romper just screams summer! Show of your tan and your fabulous style at the same time. What more could a girl ask for?

2.  Be Awesome Today Pillow – Give me rainbow pompom tassels or give me death. Okay, that might have been a tad overdramatic but can you blame me?

3.  Ommaha Sandals – I want to go to another music festival just so I can rock these sandals. They feel very Coachella to me.

4. Julia Pompom Trim Scarf – Summer scarves might just be one of my favorite accessories ever. They’re just so versatile and this one is packing a very strong trend game.

5.  Sammy Pompom Bonfire – Another off-the-shoulder romper? Really, Merisa? Yea, I know, but I couldn’t resist. This just seems like the perfect day-to-night outfit to me and you can’t pass up something like that.

6. Pompom Bangles – These little beauties had me at pompoms but kept me hanging around with bright tassels. The best of both worlds.

7.  Pompom Belly Basket – I want to take this basket home and fill it with the comfiest of blankets and throws then sit it in my living room. Bing, bang, boom! Style in a snap!

8.  H&M Straw Hat with Pompom Band – I’m not going to lie. This hat might just be sitting in my online cart as we speak. I think I need it like NOW.

9.  ASOS Swing Dress – This dress adds a bit of class to the party while still being flirty & fun, the way pompoms are meant to be.

Are you planning on joining in on the pompom trend this summer? What are some other summer trends you’re excited to work into your wardrobe? Let me know in the comments.

3 Ways to Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day

3 Ways to Celebrate St. Patrick's Day Monogrammed Magnolias

Hello, Magnolias. Happy St. Patrick’s Day! As someone who grew up knowing that somewhere around the roots of my family tree was a whole slew of Irish immigrants (just check the last name) I’ve always loved St. Patrick’s Day. I love that it’s primarily an Irish holiday that’s still celebrated all across the United States. Not to mention that when you grow up people sort of let go of that whole pinching thing in favor of green beer and cheesy fried potatoes. What’s not to love?

If you’re at a lost on how to celebrate or just not feeling the holiday spirit, keep reading. I’ll have you sorted by the time we’re done.

All Green Errything

The first step in St. Patrick’s celebration is to deck yourself out in the color green. For the office girl that means breaking out that pretty green wrap dress you’re afraid makes you look like an aloe vera plant. No one will even notice today! It’ll save you from that intern that hasn’t let go of the pinching thing and odds are someone’s going to show up without clue what today is and that’ll take everyone’s attention anyway.

Magically Delicious

You know what that means…break out the Lucky Charms. Both literally and figuratively, well, I suppose both are literal actually. Whatever. The point is to take time to enjoy the lucky things in life. Break out the rabbits feet and while you’re at it pour yourself a heaping bowl of hearts, stars, and horseshoes, clovers and blue moons, hourglasses, rainbows, and tasty red balloons!

Out on the Town

You’ve probably heard of St. Patrick’s Day celebrations in city’s like Chicago where they turn the river neon green for the holiday but what about celebrations in your own neck of the woods? As it turns out, there are actually St. Patrick’s Day festivals and parades held all across the country both the weekend before and after the holiday so google it or ask Siri for a hand. Who knows, you might just find a grand ole time just down the block. If you find that your luck might have run dry in that department then head out to your local pub for what’s sure to be a festive night. In the meantime, enjoy this incredible time lapse video of the Chicago river getting all dressed up.

How are you celebrating St. Paddy’s Day? Let me know in the comments or tweet me!

Spring Trends 2016: Under $100

Spring Trends 2016 Under 10 Dollars

Hello, Magnolias

I find that the older I get the more refined expensive my taste gets. Take the other day for instance, I was looking at shoes in a magazine with my mom when I started drooling over this pair of grey heels.

“I LOVE these shoes, Mom!”

“Of course you do. They’re Manolos.” *rolls eyes*

“Oh…” Yea, my taste is definitely maturing at a faster rate than my bank account. That makes this time of year particularly difficult. The spring trends are rolling out and I am pining for it ALL! So rather than blow my savings on a new wardrobe I’m hoping to pick up a few pieces to work in with what I already have. That’s why I’ve tried to keep these picks under $100. Actually, most of them are under $50 but there are a few statement pieces that creep up close to that top mark. You can shop all the pieces below by clicking on the pictures.

Cold Shoulder

This might be my favorite trend of the season partly because it’s the perfect base to layer with other trends like the ones you’ll see here and partly because I just really like my shoulders for some strange reason.

My favorite aunt was a huge fan of suede so I am loving that it’s coming back this season. I distinctly remember her having this gorgeous suede jacket and maybe even suede pants. She had the best style!

So, I’m normally not a huge fan of ruffles but for some reason they’re growing on me this year. They can bring a fun feminine touch to certain looks and really pick up on the whole Victorian trend from NYFW without being over the top.

As bloggers, we love our marble! Right? haha Now the trend is wearable in more than just jewelry and iPhone cases, it’s made it onto yoga pants of all things. I’m liking the edgy yet pulled together vibe of the marble dress and skirt, perfect for all those banquets and presentations coming up this spring.

We’ve all seen the classic Diane von Furstenberg wrap dress but this year’s take on the trend is lending it’s hand to suede skirts and ruffled rompers as well, taking on that layered trend look as well. I especially love the look of a wrapped skirt for Spring.

What do y’all think? Are you ready to tackle these trends? Let me know in the comments or tweet me!
