Current Obsessions: Halloween Edition

Current Obsessions Halloween Edition on Mongorammed Magnolias

Happy Halloween!!! I hope y’all are up for some tricks and treats today! I’m actually starting a new job working at a local charity shop today so I’m holding out for more treats than tricks. So to encourage the universe a bit in that department I figured I’d start by giving a treat. As a bit of  a bonus today here’s a look at my Halloween themed Current Obsessions.

The Addams Family

I grew up on The Addams Family. I wore out multiple VHS tapes back in my day and was completely in love with the lesser known cartoon version. Somehow, over the years, I managed to lax a bit on my obsession with the ooky and spooky family. However, that has all changed thanks to ABC Family’s Freeform’s 13 Night’s of Halloween. I forgot how good The Addams Family movie and it’s sequel, Addams Family Values, actually were. Maybe it’s just the kid in me but I’m obsessed all over again.

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Damned

As a bonafide 90s kid, I have had a long standing obsession with black lipstick. It was always something I admired on other girls but never something I thought I could ever pull off. That is until I started reading up on my little obsession with these articles on the important history of black lipstick here and here. While this formula isn’t exactly black, more like blackberry, it does push buttons in all the right ways for me. In fact, I love it so much I featured this color in my Beauty Trend: Vampy Lips post earlier this month. You can join me in the (almost) black lipstick obsession by picking up your own KVD Damned here.

The Walking Dead

No spoilers but…OMG SEASON 7! It’s crazy, y’all. That season premiere was a rough one but honestly, it all evened out with last night’s episode. In fact, I might go as far as to say that last night’s ep was probably my favorite episode of the hole series and that’s kinda crazy in it’s own right. If you’ve seen it then you probably know what I mean. If you haven’t then I suggest you get on it!

The Last Podcast on the Left

Before I say anything, this podcast is not for the easily offended. Honestly, it pushes my buttons sometimes but it’s comedy so just take it with a grain of salt. At the basis of this podcast is 3 guys who love horror movies, true crime, and all things creepy. Check, check, and check please! The other day I was listening along while doing dishes, typical. It was one of those days though. You know, the kind where things just continually go wrong until you’re just going about your day under a huge pile of ewww. The podcast made me laugh out loud so many times that my mood was instantly lifted with very little effort. It literally saved the day! That’s the sign of a good comedy podcast if you ask me.

What are some of your Halloween obsessions this year? Did you go to a killer party? What costume did you end up going with? Let me know it ALL in the comments!

Happy Halloween!

Last Minute Halloween Costume Ideas + Link Up on Monogrammed Magnolias

Ahhh! Happy Halloweekend, y’all! I can’t believe Halloween is finally here! We’re keeping things going with the final costume ideas post of the month. What better way to finish this awesome link-up than with last minute costume ideas? I’ve got you covered with costumes for both guys and girls but I’ll take it one step further. I’m lucky enough to team up with my friend Koryn from Pick Your Beau this week so be sure to check out her post here and add any Halloween themed posts of your own to the link-up below.

Holly Golightly – Breakfast at Tiffany’s

Last Minute Halloween Costume Ideas + Link Up on Monogrammed Magnolias

This costume is a classic for a reason…it’s fabulous and kind of a breeze. Grab your favorite LBD out of the closet, pull your hair into an updo (like this), throw on ALL the pearls and costume jewelry you own, classic sunglasses & gloves, bonus points for the coffee & croissant!

Chad Radwell – Scream Queens

Last Minute Halloween Costume Ideas + Link Up on Monogrammed Magnolias

No spoilers here but let’s just say Chad deserves to be your (or your bf’s) Halloween costume this year. Plus, it’d be super easy to pull off. Just raid your grandpa’s golf wardrobe or hit up your local thrift store for all things pastel and preppy. Viola! You’re now a millionaire frat daddy!

Wednesday Addams – The Addams Family

Last Minute Halloween Costume Ideas + Link Up

Ughh, Wednesday is my spirit animal. Good news is she’s got a pretty easy look to replicate. Start with long pigtails (spray ’em black for the full effect), throw on a black t-shirt dress (wear an oxford underneath or glue on a white collar), deaden the eyes and you’ve got it.

Negan – The Walking Dead

Last Minute Halloween Costume Ideas + Link Up

Guys, I can’t even begin to talk about the season 7 premiere of The Walking Dead. Like I physically just can’t. With that being said, I also can’t bring myself to have hard feelings toward Negan. Maybe it’s just my absolute love of Jeffrey Dean Morgan…scratch that, it’s definitely my absolute love for Jeffrey Dean Morgan. I mean, he’s Denny Duquette, John Winchester, Judah Botwin, and freaking Batman’s dad all rolled into one! But let’s face it, he takes the cake as Negan and you’ll most likely WIN everything if this is your Halloween costume. All you really need is a leather jacket, dark pants and boots, a red scarf, and your very own vampire bat known as Lucille of course.

Party Animals

Last Minute Halloween Costume Ideas + Link Up on Monogrammed Magnolias

I saved this one for last because, well, it’s my favorite. Throw on your favorite party dress aka that one from formal sophomore year that you saved up all year for but only wore for like 5 hours. Then do your makeup (you can catch a few awesome tutorials here and here) and strategically pile a couple of sticks into your hair! Boom! You’re a bonafide party animal!

I hope this has helped if any of you are stuck on costumes this year. Not gonna lie, I still haven’t nailed down my costume entirely and I need it like tomorrow. What are you going to be this Halloween? Let me know in the comments below and be sure to check out Koryn’s post here.

Halloween Couple Costume Ideas + Link Up

Halloween Couple Costume + Link Up on Monogrammed Magnolias

I’m loving sharing all of my favorite Halloween costume ideas with y’all so I thought I’d share some more. This time we’re talking couple costumes. From the super cute to the crazy fun, there’s something for everyone…and I do mean everyone.

There’s also a twist to this week’s post. I’m co-hosting this week’s Halloween Link Up with Kayla from Kayla Blogs! That’s means two things: 1. Be sure to link up any Halloween themed posts you might have down below and 2. Check out Kayla’s take on couple’s costumes here! Now let’s get to it!

JFK & Jackie

I just had to include my dream couple costume…you know, in case someone sees this and actually wants to be a part of a couple with me.

Gomez & Morticia Addams

Now for my second dream couple costume because it always pays to have a backup.

Kermit & Miss Piggy

How fabulous would this be for like a fancy Halloween party at a castle or even the office party? Plus, Miss Piggy is fabulous and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

Kahl Drogo & Kahleesi

This costume seriously blows me away! Like, whoa! Sign me up!

Spinelli & TJ from Disney’s Recess

Nostalgia! It’s what Halloween is all about! I mean, come on, who didn’t ship Spinweiler? Detnelli? You get the picture.

Batman & Robin

I was a little taken aback when I was researching for this post and I realized pretty much all the “couple” costumes out there were for a girl and a boy. Well, we all know that’s not always how it goes so I set out on a hunt. This costume is great and literally works for anyone from boys to girls, best friends, babies…anyone can be Batman & Robin!

Poison Ivy & Catwoman

Same goes for these badass babes! Who doesn’t love Poison Ivy and Catwoman. Sure they might not actually go together as a couple but still, they’re pretty awesome together.

Goose & Maverick from Top Gun

Another costume that works for literally everyone! I mean is there even a better duo than Goose and Mav? (I couldn’t actually find a picture of them together though so maybe)

Peter Pan & Tinkerbell

A costume for literally everyone because let’s face it…Peter Pan is usually played by a girl anyway.

Who doesn’t love a little vampire action? You can take this costume anyway you want. It can test the boundaries as Dracula and his undead bride or go full glam as The Countess & Donovan of AHS: Hotel fame. You could even crack everyone up as Edward and Bella!

How fun was that? I hope y’all enjoyed them! You can find all of these costumes on Pinterest by the way.

Don’t forget…if you have a Halloween themed post be sure to link it up here and check out Kayla’s post over on!

Halloween Group Costume Ideas + Link Up

Halloween Group Costume Ideas + Link Up on Monogrammed Magnolias

“I remember when I thought group costumes were a good idea. Too much work! And not enough friends.” – Darrell, Bob’s Burgers

Do you feel the struggle of group costumes? Well fear not because we’re sticking with the series from last Friday with a Halloween Group Costume Idea round-up! These next five group costume ideas are sure to be hits and the best part is they can be DIY’d! What could be better than that?

Stranger Things

I accomplished something off my Fall Bucket List the other day, I rewatched Stranger Things, this time with my roommates. We’re all obsessed with those adorable kids. Oh and don’t get me started on Nancy’s subtle 80s fab style. How could you not want to get the gang together, ransack a thrift store, and hot the Halloween party as the hottest crew on TV Netflix.

Troop Beverly Hills

Remember Kim Kardashian’s Troop Beverly Hills baby shower a while back? Yea, she totally stole that from me, except it was my Pinterest-fueled imaginary bachelorette party but still. Whatever, it’s cool, I’m over it. However, that’s not going to stop me from dreaming up a full blown Troop Beverly Hills fantasy #girlsquad Halloween.

Okay, okay, I might have more of a thing for the 80s than I originally thought but how perfect would the cast of Clue be for a group costume? Whether you’re a fan of the board game, the movie, or both (like me!) you can find something for everybody in this costume. Personally, I’ve always been a Miss Scarlet myself…in the ballroom, with the candlestick.

American Horror Story

I’m a huge AHS fan, just take a peek at my Twitter feed on any given Wednesday for proof. I can’t help thinking how amazing it would be to get a group together and go as the characters from any of the anthologies. While everyone would be clamoring over Tate and Moira from Murder House you could give me a leopard jacket, ripped stocking, I’ll nix the under eye concealer and you can call me Hotel’s Hypodermic Sally. Viola!

Power Rangers

Did you see that trailer? I watched it without sound the first time and it was still amazing! Of course, that’s coming from someone who had two Power Ranger birthday cakes, endless episodes on VHS, and the pink ranger Barbie so I might be a little biased. What an epic throwback though! Oh and just my two cents here but Mighty Morphin or nothin’.

Well there you have it, y’all! Fire up the group texts, find your local thrift store, and get to it! Oh, but in the meantime, don’t forget to check out the linkup below!

Halloween Costume Ideas + Link-up

Halloween Costume Ideas + Link Up on Monogrammed Magnolias

The countdown is officially on, y’al1! There are only three more weekends until Halloween weekend! You know what that means? It’s costume planning time. I’ve gathered together some of my favorite costume ideas from Halloween-brainstorming headquarters…aka Pinterest…to get your creative juices flowing!

Got a Halloween related post? Link it down below, interact with other blogs in the linkup, and be sure to share this post here!

Bad Sandy

How freaking cute is Gigi Hadid as Bad Sandy from Grease? Classic!

The Joker

Everyone and their freaking sister is going to be Harley Quinn this year (that’s not a dig, you be the best Harley you can be, girl) so why not switch it up and be the female Joker? It’ll make a great photo op.

Chanel from Scream Queens

How perfect is this? It’s the new Cher from Clueless costume, I’m telling you!

Let’s face it, the world is a little pineapple crazy right now and you know what they say. If you can’t beat ’em you might as well join ’em.

Belle from Beauty & the Beast

I imagine this as the perfect costume for an elementary school teacher. Great modest option!

I freaking love this cactus…I don’t even know why, I just do. It’s great!

Who doesn’t want to be a mermaid? Halloween is the perfect time to live out that fantasy.

Wonder Woman, Gal Gadot style

Currently, there is no one in the whole wide world I want to be more than Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman. So obviously, she made it on my list of Halloween costume ideas.

Audrey Hepburn

There’s so many great Audrey options to choose from. I especially like this comfy look from Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Great DIY look.

Britney Spears

Another look with tons of options! You could pull a pure 90s “Baby One More Time” move or go all out with the VMAs “Slave 4 U” look.

 Hillary Clinton

Someone’s gotta do it, it might as well be you!

Louise Belcher from Bob’s Burgers

In my honest opinion, Louise was created to be a Halloween costume. So perfect and absolutely hilarious!

Barb from Stranger Things

Go on, be the life of the party. Be Barb!

Marty McFly from Back to the Future

I might be the biggest Back to the Future fan ever…well, as least the biggest born after it premiered and because of that, I kinda wanna be Marty for Halloween.

What are you planning on wearing this Halloween? Let me know in comments and be sure to follow me on Twitter for more Halloween preparations! Oh and don’t forget to link your Halloween posts down below!

My Fall Bucket List

My Fall Bucket Liston Monogrammed MagnoliasI don’t know if I can ever put into words just how excited I am for Fall to get here. Yes, I am most definitely that girl! I just feel like I am at my best when Fall rolls around. However, it seems I’m also at my busiest so things can get a little crazy this time of year. That’s why I’ve decided to throw together a list of everything I want to accomplish this season, a bucket list if you will.

My Fall Bucket List

It’s got everything from taking in all the pumpkin scents at Bath & Body Works, trying mulled wine for the first time, buying a pumpkin roll from one of our local church groups, to watching my favorite movies like Hocus Pocus! You can read everything on my list down below, pin it for later, and check things off right alongside me as the season goes on.

Are you as excited for the change of season as I am? What’s something on the top of your Fall Bucket List? Let me know in the comments and be sure to follow me on Twitter for more!

Around the Web: New Moon, LC, and some Bad Blood

Sunday morning essentials

Hello, Magnolias.

I hope your day is going well, full of love and light. Mine has been pretty amazing so far. I woke up to the smell of bacon! Ahhh, is that not just the best? After breakfast I decided to relax with a book and a cup of tea but then I was warmly interrupted by little Tucker who just wanted his morning puppy cuddles. I’m always happy to oblige there.

I’ve been working so much this week that I’ve just been saving links to check back later…so while I’m winding down and going through them all I thought I’d share some of those links here with you all.

College Prepster brought us The Power of Living with Less in the form of a guest post by Maxie McCoy. Over the past month or so my mind has continually moved toward the thoughts of living minimally and Maxie may have just pushed me completely over the line.

I am obsessed with Veronica Varlow’s Tarot Horoscopes and now she’s even doing them with videos for each sign. She pulled the strength card for us Libra’s this month and her quick little video came with a serious boost of…well, everything! Strength included, that’s one of my favorite parts of Tarot.

On a similar track, Gala Darling’s New Moon Magic is one of my favorite monthly posts. I’m a little late on the new moon but I’m still going find a way to participate, you should too.

Shameless plug, but I’m in the process of revamping my Pinterest page (You should totally follow along. Hint, hint, nudge, nudge) and it’s all thanks to the fabulous Alyssa Birchfield and her Ultimate Pinterest Guide for #CreativeBizBabes. In fact, you should head over to right now to sign up for her emails and get your own FREE copy of the guide.

Now for something a bit more serious. As a history nerd and avid world new follower, I’ve been aware of the Syrian Refugee Crisis for quiet a while, unsure of the logistics of it all or even what it all meant. That is until John Green (yes, that John Green) came to me with his immense understanding of all things awesome in the form of a YouTube video explaining the crisis and how it affects the world.

It’s a must watch for absolutely everyone.

Kind of hard to segway here but… if you’re a Gilmore Girls fan then you will love Bustle’s look at Gilmore Girl’s Fall Fashion Inspiration. Seriously, Fall is my favorite time in real life as well as Stars Hollow so I am completely on board with taking a little inspo from my favorite fast talking mother-daughter duo.

This week Lauren Conrad launched her LC Runway collection at New York Fashion Week and it was incredible! Get this…it’s all available at Kohl’s! How crazy is that? I’m in love with so many of the pieces but one of the best things about it is that it feels like one of my best friends has achieved a huge dream of her’s seeing as I’ve grown up with LC from her days at Laguna Beach High School, that time she didn’t go to Paris, and even her wedding!

Check out my favorite looks from the collection here, here, and here.

It’s never too early to get your Halloween costume in order, especially if you’re doing a good old fashion DIY. Also, I’m always down for a good group costume and what better way to spend Halloween than in your very own version of Taylor Swift’s girl gang? Brit + Co has taken care of the logistics of all that with this guide to a DIY Bad Blood Halloween.

Around the Web: The Danger Dame, Paneless Flying, and #AlexfromTarget

Here are some of my favorite things I’ve found floating around the inter-webs this week:

Veronica Varlow’s Danger Diary — I freaking love this gal! She’s a bombshell burlesque girl who just so happens to be chasing after her dreams and putting on a production of her very own movie. Her Danger Dame Diary is where she documents her escapades and pretty much leaves me hanging on her every word. Her latest post tells the tale of a late night at a truck stop laundromat. Sounds kinda bland right? On the contrary, she paints the scene with a poetic use of words so vibrant that even the dullest of situations leave you wanting more.

A Beautiful Mess Book Club — I’ve been a huge fan of the apps from A Beautiful Mess for such a long time but for some reason I hadn’t checked out their blog until recently. I love it! It’s chock full of chic DIYs, incredible style points, and everything in between. I was so excited when I came across the post explaining that the blog had a book club going, even more excited when I found out October’s book was The Great Gatsby. Uh, only one of my favorite books ever! I hate that I missed it so I’m determined to hop on the bandwagon for November. Especially since the book of the month is Lena Dunham’s highly anticipated Not that Kind of Girl.

I so desperately want to be a member of the Harris-Burtka family. I mean how freaking precious are they in their super extravagant themed Halloween  costumes? Answer: too freaking precious for words! Love them.

Pane-less Flying For the Future with Windowless Airplanes — I have some serious problems with the idea of windowless airplanes, some of which have been colorfully explained here. The whole premise is that windows actually cause a lot of issues when it comes to the structure and the cost of airplanes but keep some passengers at ease. With windowless planes manufacturers claim that both weight and cost are greatly reduced which in turn reduces fuel usage as well as CO2 emissions. Seems great right? Let’s go back to that whole windowless flying, I mean planes already feel like confining with those tiny windows as they are so what happens when there’s no connection to what’s going on in the outside world? Well, they’ve got that covered.

The walls of the aircraft would ultimately become capable of playing video relative to the environment outside the plane. But what happens when there’s turbulence? A storm? You can’t tell me there won’t be ads. Companies love  ads and what could be better than having an audience trapped in their seats for hours at a time surrounded by several square feet of advertising space? It’s got the makings of some seriously annoying travels woes so let’s hope they get that crap figured out before these things take off.

Old Hollywood Glamour Hauntings? — I’m obviously having trouble letting go of Halloween. This story from Vanity Fair pulls you in with the history of old Hollywood, I mean did you know the original Hollywood sign read “Hollywoodland,” and it keeps you reading with the lure of modern day hauntings. Let’s just say I’ll never be able to look at gardenias the same way.

Stamped Initial Bracelet DIY — remember those chic DIYs from A Beautiful Mess I was just talking about? Well, how perfect is it that they have a tutorial for initial bracelets? Uh, is there really anything a Monogrammed Magnolia loves more than her initials on display? I think not.

I have to say I tried really hard not to like Taylor Swift’s new album, 1989, but then I listened to it…and all hope was lost. I’m not a huge Swifty fan but you’ve gotta give credit where credit is due and that album is pretty much out of this world. There’s an amazing song called Blank Space that’s like a written caricature of the Taylor portrayed in the media and it’s only made me like her more. I also have a soft spot in my heart for Style (which I secretly hope is about Harry Styles but I’m sure Swifty’s not gonna be that obvious) and Bad Blood (reportedly about her spoiled relationship with candy-coated Katy Perry after they both dated John Mayer).

Don’t you just love the internet? Alex from Target sure does. — How incredible is it that within a matter of hours a seemingly unknown boy working as a cashier to pay for a set of wheels is now known around the world thanks to his very own hashtag? Well, #AlexfromTarget is not only the latest internet sensation but also the leader of Target’s new youth-“targeted” consumer takeover. That’s right, Target has turned the tables and used Alex’s Twitter fame for their own good according to this article claiming that Alex is Target’s new “cool thing”.

until next time,

How to Have Your Best Halloween Ever

I have a bit of a confession…

ever since I was like 5 years old I have had a severe obsession with Sabrina the Teenage Witch.

Not much of a confession if you’ve been here before, right?

Well, it goes a bit further than that. I have always been fascinated by witches. I mean the 90s were chock full of them so you really can’t blame a girl. Remember Charmed, Hocus Pocus, Willow from Buffy, Practical Magic, The Craft? Well I do and they were all fabulous in their own little ways.

When I was younger I had a Sabrina doll that came with it’s own magical Salem the cat (the eyes lit up when Sabrina gave his little head a pet), I dressed as a witch for like 8 Halloweens in a row, I even had a bracelet that I was convinced Sabrina herself wore in an episode. Thought I was joking when I said obsession, didn’t you?

I even had this fantastic knack for guessing the right hand a prize was held in, catching someone in a lie, or, this is where it gets really fun…telling my mom when she was pregnant. That’s right, as the story goes my mom was lying on the couch sick with the flu one day in the early 90s when little me waddled up and proclaimed she was going to have me a little sister. Guess what the flu turned into 9 months later?

A little sister, y’all!

Now, I’m not proclaiming to posses magical powers or keep a spell book protected by a black flame candle or anything like that but all of these fun memories and my love for the lore of witches and wizards have left me with a soft spot in my heart when it comes to Halloween. That’s why every year I try to make the most of the day by going all out.

First of all, you’ve got to dress the part. I’m not too big into the pointy hats now that I’m older (to be honest, they just don’t make witch costumes like they used to) but I love a good all-black outfit. Seeing as Trick or Treat night has already passed in my hometown I’ve gone for a look that screams comfort rather than one that actually makes you scream.

my little Tucker sitting in the background there

You can’t forget your good voodoo vibes with a fun crystal necklace either! I snagged this purple and pink druzy one from HauteLook.

Halloween is also a great time to be adventurous with your makeup. So break out that sparkly green shadow and those crazy lashes because today is the day that no can judge you because there’s always going to be someone dressed as Chuckie that they’re judging harder. haha

This is me trying to take a sneaky selfie in the midst of handing out candy to Trick or Treaters last night.

A look is not complete without some festive nails so bust out your vampy polishes and that neon orange color you bought last summer because they are going to come in handy. I actually went the non-traditional route and paired this sparkly rose gold polish with my Halloween decals from my POPSUGAR Must Have Box for October that arrived just in time.

Now that you’ve got your look on lock these next steps can come in whatever order you wish.

My personal preference is to curl up on the couch, candles burning, warm mug in hand, and turn on a scary movie. My favorite at the moment being the Scream franchise.

Now, I’ll probably stay in that position most of the day but after reading this post on The Numinous blog I think I might give some of their suggestions a shot. I especially like the idea of taking a walk and enjoying the outside world at such an important time for nature.

Once I’ve successfully scared myself silly and ate my body weight in candy I often find myself sad at the end of Halloween. I love this time of year so much that it almost hurts to see it go. So this year, in order to fight those Hallow’s Eve blues I’ve decided to treat myself to a luxury bath. I’ll be using the Phoenix Rising bath bomb and Dark Angels facial cleanser from LUSH because those seem very fitting.

I also have plans to snuggle up in bed with my little puppy, who is actually celebrating his 1st birthday on Halloween, and watch Halloweentown and Hocus Pocus because that’s just what you do.

I’m not too much of a party girl…creeping up in my old age and whatnot, so this plan holds the makings of a perfect Halloween to me. Comment below letting me know your plans for Halloween this year or your favorite Halloween memory.

until next time,
