The Sunday Six

Happy October, y’all!

October is my favorite month of the year for countless reasons (it’s my birthmonth for one!) so I thought it would be fun to kick off the month with the introduction of a new series…The Sunday Six! It’s most likely exactly what you think it is, a count of my favorite things at the moment. I’m actually pretty late to the party on this one so let’s just get to it before it comes the Monday Many (not cute).

In case you haven’t heard, Tara from Beaus and Bows and I are hosting a photo-a-day challenge over on Instagram. You can find the prompt and today’s post right here. Feel free to follow along and use the hashtag #BoosAndBows. I can’t wait to see how creative we can get with each day’s prompt. If you join in, you might even find yourself featured right here on Magnolia Moon.

The Catch Up

I went out to celebrate my birthday a little early last night (it’s on Tuesday). Honestly, it was probably the first time I’d been out to a bar with my friends like that since college and at the risk of sounding like the “mom friend” that I am, it was surprisingly fun! We did everything you’d expect from a group of girls in a bar. Group bathroom selfies, the shot wheel, too many mixed drinks, obnoxious flash selfies, we even yelled “Free Bird” at the band. That last one is probably just a Southern girl thing but you get the picture. Later on in the night we met up with a group of guys we went to school with and my best friend and I realized a few of us had known each other for over 23 years. That’s longer than my little sister, who was also there, has been alive! I loved every minute of catching up with everyone and can’t wait to do it again…in a few weeks because, you know, balance.

Lip Paint

Sephora recently had Tarte’s Tarteist Lip Paint on the Weekly Wow for $11 so I snatched up 2 different shades, Deep Nude and Killin’ It. They’re pretty typical as far as liquid lipsticks go but I do feel a slight difference in the level of comfort on my lips compared to a formula like the Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks. I’m a fan of both but Tarte does feel a bit more comfortable for everyday wear.

Pumpkin Spice on Ice

This is really my first year diving into the whole Pumpkin Spice thing and I have to say…I regret nothing. Currently I’m obsessed with iced pumpkin spice lattes because even if it is October it’s still 80-90 degrees on any given day so ice is necessary. I also hit Trader Joe’s wide open and snatched up Pumpkin Waffles, Pumpkin Crisps, and Pumpkin Ravioli. All were life changing and highly recommended.

I’ve been traveling to Louisville, Kentucky once a month for about four months now for doctor’s appointments and I’m realizing that I’m pretty much falling in love with the city. So this is more of a call to action than a favorite pick but if you have any travel guides to Louisville or happen to live there, let me know! It’s made it’s way onto my list of possible cities to live in and I want to know all I can about the city.

What’s the Tee

I’ve had a strong love for RuPaul since he played the Witches Council judge on Sabrina the Teenage Witch circa 1997. With that being said, I tend to listen to a lot of true crime or political podcasts that can weigh pretty heavy on the heart sometimes. That’s where RuPaul: What’s the Tee comes in. It’s a laugh every damn time. It’s honestly become my fool-proof, instant pick-me-up method. I’ve even started listening to episodes over again. I’ve probably heard the ep with Katya at least 3 times now. Also, there is no sound more precious than the cackle of RuPaul, it gets me every time.

There ya have it, y’all. A little rushed, a little thrown together but that’s the beauty of it. Stay tuned for more of The Sunday Six soon and in the mean time, be sure to follow me on Instagram for the #BoosAndBows challenge.

Five Favorite Things + Five More

Five Favorite Things + Five More

Hello, Magnolias.

It’s been so long since I’ve done a Five Favorite Things post and let’s face it, a girl can acquire a lot of favorites in that amount of time. So to kick off our weekend, I’ve decided to bring you not just five faves but ten, or as I like to think of it, a killer two for one deal right at your fingertips. Five Favorite Things + Five More, Floppy Hat, elf Eye Liner, CK One, Revlon Floppy Wool Hat

The floppy hat trend has sucked me into it’s gravitational pull, y’all, and I am never letting go. Seriously, a floppy hat can dress up any look and it’s so easy to pull off. I picked up this one for under $15 at Rue 21.

Five Favorite Things + Five More, Floppy Hat, elf Eye Liner, CK One, Revlon, Essence
e.l.f. Cream Eyeliner in Black

I have to credit my sister with this new discovery because she showed me the wonderful ways of cream eyeliner. It’s beyond black, glides on so smooth, and lasts hours longer than my usual gel eyeliner. Also, it’s $3 and comes with a brush. How crazy is that?!

CK One

I don’t even know where to begin with this perfume…it’s so good! In fact, it was my first ever grown up fragrance and I’m falling love with it all over again. It’s classic and, oddly enough, unisex but don’t let that throw you off. If you’re into more musky and warm fragrances, especially for fall, then give this one a shot.

Essence Express Dry Drops

This is one of those products that make me question how I ever lived without it. Just one drop on each freshly painted nail and done. I’m not even joking, by the time I’m done with my right hand the left hand is already dry.

Revlon ColorBurst Matte Balm in Shameless

Fun fact: my first ever makeup product was a .99 cent god-awful lilac lipstick. It had a frosted finish (eek!) and made my teeth look like I was a pack-a-day smoker at 13 but I loved that lipstick. I eventually parted ways with the little silver tube but I suppose I’ve always been on the hunt for a color to take it’s place. I believe I’ve finally found that perfect replacement in Shameless. It’s one of my favorite lip color formulas and, believe it or not, it doesn’t make my teeth look yellow in the least. If you wanna see this color live and, well, in color…then hop over to my Instagram and see it in full blown selfie action.

Five Favorite Things + Five More, United Monograms, Lilly Pulitzer
United Monograms Sweatshirts

What would Monogrammed Magnolias be without some monograms? I picked up these incredibly comfy sweatshirts from United Monograms during a sale they had before my birthday. The company is based in South Carolina and was affected by the flooding that happened around the same time I placed the order. I definitely understood that the processing and delivery of my order would in turn be affected but the company was absolutely wonderful by sending along a free koozie and discount code to make up fro the delay. I love the quality of the sweatshirts. I’ve practically lived in the green pullover since I got it in the mail and I have zero regrets. I highly, highly recommend them so check out

Five Favorite Things + Five More, BaubleBar, Too Faced Melted Lipstick
BaubleBar Festive Fringe Necklace

This double strand gold necklace complete with hot pink tassels is giving me so much life right now. It’s just such a fun and unique piece that has the added pluses of quality and affordability. In fact, this necklace is on sale at BaubleBar right now and comes in 5 more colors here. I love this piece so much I’m seriously considering picking up the silver & turquoise tassel option next.

Too Faced Melted Liquid Lipstick

I’m addicted to lip colors…we’ve been through this before…and the Too Faced Melted Liquid Lipstick in Fuchsia has been my favorite for a while now but that might change now. I picked up 3 more colors in Too Faced’s latest holiday collection (they came with matching Love Flush Blush minis!). The colors Fig, Nude, and Peony are absolutely perfect for fall. I can’t get enough of them. Fig is a great purple-mauve while nude is more on the darker, brown nude side and peony is a light pink. If you’re looking to try out some Too Faced products, definitely give their Holiday collection a look through as they have incredible sets put together for a great value.

Five Favorite Things + Five More, Vintage Kentucky, Lavender, Tea Tree, Eucalyptus Essential Oils

Vintage Kentucky Serving Tray

I picked up this awesome vintage tray at a flea market a couple of weekends ago. It’s so perfect for me and represents my home state so beautifully in my room. I have this vision of a vintage inspired library in a future home of mine and this little guy is well on his way of being the center piece of that reality. I love looking through and seeing towns I’ve visited and flashing back to great memories, even more special seeing as my college town is on it too!

Essential Oils

This is going to sound a little Woo Woo but I’m absolutely obsessed with essential oils at the moment. I picked up this 3 pack of Lavender, Tea Tree, and Eucalyptus oils from Marshall’s the other day and I haven’t looked back. I’m currently keeping a list of all the wonderful uses these little bottles have. I use the lavender oil when I’m feeling a bit anxious or ready for bed, I even put a drop in my mint tea sometimes to really enhance the flavor. I currently use tea tree oil with my Josie Maran Argan Oil for blemishes as well as in my facial mist. Eucalyptus oil is a bit more tricky for me but I have managed to use it in my bath water along side some bath oil and a few drops of lavender. Absolute heaven. Do you use essential oils? Got any different uses? I’d love to here them.

Five Favorite Things

Hello, Magnolias!

It’s  been a hot minute since I brought you my last set of Five Favorite Things and I figured the end of a great month (well, now the beginning of what looks to be a great month) would be a good time to start back up again, so let’s just jump right in.

I contemplated just picking one show to talk about but then I just couldn’t get the rest of my Netflix favorites out of my head. There’s quiet a few but I’ll try to make this short and sweet. First of all, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is like a dream show. Tina Fey is back to writing and she is knocking it out of the park with this one, the only downfall of the whole thing is that I finished the first season in 2 days. Now what am I suppose to watch? Well, Netflix has got my back because I am falling in love with new additions like Star Crossed (a show that makes me regret missing it’s original run),  House of Cards (a little lacking this season but I haven’t actually finished it so we’ll just have to wait and see), a must-see called Unplanned America, and an old favorite in Bob’s Burgers that I pretty much fall asleep to every night.

Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURESI’m not even going to touch on the name because I’ve already had an awkward encounter when a little old lady asked what mascara I was wearing, but let me just say that this mascara is damn good. In fact, it’s the only mascara I’ve ever worn that has earned me multiple compliments on my lashes. The matte, pink, metal packaging is out of this world thanks to the weighted handled that has made my mascara application alone a knockout.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURESAs you can see in the picture above, the actual wand is curved on the sides which makes it thicker on both ends. I feel like this allows the wand to really hug the curve of your lashes and coat the individual hairs better than most wands. Overall, this is my favorite mascara I’ve tried lately. I’ve went through 2 sample sizes and now a full size.

State Champs

I kept seeing stuff about the band, State Champs, on tumblr so I just decided it was about time to check them out since so many people on my dash seemed to like them.

I regret absolutely nothing.

Actually, no, I regret not checking them out sooner because they are awesome and I’ve pretty much had their whole catalog on repeat since I first heard them. Some of my favorites that you should definitely check out are listed below.

Deadly Conversations | Hard to Please | If I’m Lucky | Simple Existence | Elevated | Prepare to Be Noticed | Rooftops | Stay the Night (Zedd ft. Hayley Williams cover from Punk Goes Pop 6)

That’s a lot, but I’m not joking when I say I’ve got it all on repeat.

BaubleBar Mini Acrylic State Pendant

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURESlove BaubleBar, so when they were having a sale a few weeks back (either that or I had a major coupon) I decided to snatch up a cute little personalized necklace. With the help of Dani Lou I landed on a cobalt blue Kentucky pendant that arrived just in time for March Madness (still love them Cats!). I just love it to bits. I’m a bluegrass belle to my core and I’ll always stand when I hear “My Old Kentucky Home” so being able to have my home so close to my heart has definitely been one of my favorite things as of late.

Lilly For Target Satin Kimono in Pineapple Punch

Y’all already know how I feel about the madness that was Lilly for Target but I haven’t gotten the chance to let ya know what I managed to snag. Satin dress in Boom Boom…amazing! Shift in See Ya Later…everything I could ever want in a shift dress. Palazzo pants in Boom Boom…what-hell-was-I-thinking too big (so those are up for grabs if anyone is interested. lol) but my favorite piece has to be something that was really more of an impulse buy than anything.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURESThe silk kimono in Pineapple Punch, of course. Honestly, I can’t tell you how happy I am that I grabbed this when I had the chance. It brightens my day when I throw this on and walk downstairs in the morning. Just wearing it makes me feel like every door I open should be double doors that led to a breezy room with billowing curtains. That’s oddly specific but you know what I mean. Think Daisy Buchanan’s living room meets Palm Beach pool party.

Hope you’ve enjoyed this peak at my favorite things leave a comment below letting me know a favorite of your’s.
