Last Minute Halloween Costume Ideas + Link Up on Monogrammed Magnolias

Ahhh! Happy Halloweekend, y’all! I can’t believe Halloween is finally here! We’re keeping things going with the final costume ideas post of the month. What better way to finish this awesome link-up than with last minute costume ideas? I’ve got you covered with costumes for both guys and girls but I’ll take it one step further. I’m lucky enough to team up with my friend Koryn from Pick Your Beau this week so be sure to check out her post here and add any Halloween themed posts of your own to the link-up below.

Holly Golightly – Breakfast at Tiffany’s

This costume is a classic for a reason…it’s fabulous and kind of a breeze. Grab your favorite LBD out of the closet, pull your hair into an updo (like this), throw on ALL the pearls and costume jewelry you own, classic sunglasses & gloves, bonus points for the coffee & croissant!

Chad Radwell – Scream Queens

Last Minute Halloween Costume Ideas + Link Up on Monogrammed Magnolias

No spoilers here but let’s just say Chad deserves to be your (or your bf’s) Halloween costume this year. Plus, it’d be super easy to pull off. Just raid your grandpa’s golf wardrobe or hit up your local thrift store for all things pastel and preppy. Viola! You’re now a millionaire frat daddy!

Wednesday Addams – The Addams Family

Last Minute Halloween Costume Ideas + Link Up

Ughh, Wednesday is my spirit animal. Good news is she’s got a pretty easy look to replicate. Start with long pigtails (spray ’em black for the full effect), throw on a black t-shirt dress (wear an oxford underneath or glue on a white collar), deaden the eyes and you’ve got it.

Negan – The Walking Dead

Last Minute Halloween Costume Ideas + Link Up

Guys, I can’t even begin to talk about the season 7 premiere of The Walking Dead. Like I physically just can’t. With that being said, I also can’t bring myself to have hard feelings toward Negan. Maybe it’s just my absolute love of Jeffrey Dean Morgan…scratch that, it’s definitely my absolute love for Jeffrey Dean Morgan. I mean, he’s Denny Duquette, John Winchester, Judah Botwin, and freaking Batman’s dad all rolled into one! But let’s face it, he takes the cake as Negan and you’ll most likely WIN everything if this is your Halloween costume. All you really need is a leather jacket, dark pants and boots, a red scarf, and your very own vampire bat known as Lucille of course.

Party Animals

Last Minute Halloween Costume Ideas + Link Up on Monogrammed Magnolias

I saved this one for last because, well, it’s my favorite. Throw on your favorite party dress aka that one from formal sophomore year that you saved up all year for but only wore for like 5 hours. Then do your makeup (you can catch a few awesome tutorials here and here) and strategically pile a couple of sticks into your hair! Boom! You’re a bonafide party animal!

I hope this has helped if any of you are stuck on costumes this year. Not gonna lie, I still haven’t nailed down my costume entirely and I need it like tomorrow. What are you going to be this Halloween? Let me know in the comments below and be sure to check out Koryn’s post here.

Around the Web: Ruby Rose, Topanga, and the Talking Phase

Hello, Magnolias.

How the h-e-double-hockey-sticks is it the weekend?

(Side note: anyone remember that movie? With Jack & Eric from Boy Meets World? No, just me, okay then. Moving on.)

Don’t get me wrong, I’m thanking the powers at be at the top of my lungs that it’s Saturday but this week just went by in a blur. I feel exhausted but also like I got absolutely nothing done. That’s all okay though because I’ve got a to-do list to keep me on track and a week full of organizational posts coming your way but first, let’s take a look at some of the awesome things the internet has gifted us this week.

Lauren Conrad Home Tour InStyle Around the Web

Lauren Conrad is always popping up Around the Web but this time is extra special as InStyle takes us inside LC’s California dream home.

Have you heard? Ed Sheeran and Ruby Rose are set to host the 2015 MTV European Music Awards October 25th. The Brit and Aussie duo have been pitched as the perfect pairing for the “cute and badass” show and I’m betting they’re right.

Bustle brought us the wonders that are 8 Feminist Lessons from Topanga Lawrence. I pretty much based my entire adolescence off of Topanga’s wisdom, particularly this little gem…

Bustle Feminist Lessons Topanga Lawrence Around the Web

Hi, my name’s Merisa and I’m a history nerd. Now that we’re reacquainted, let’s talk about how excited I was went Mental Floss tweeted about the anniversary of the first ever televised Presidential speech. I just love stuff like that, it’s so fun.

Speaking of presidents, I’m one of those people that just love the Kennedys. Betcha can’t guess my favorite Kennedy, aside from Jackie but she doesn’t count in this matter. Jack? Nope. Bobby? Nope. It’s Rosemary, aka The Hidden Kennedy. Or at least that’s what she’s being called in a new biography. If you’re a Kennedy fan like me, I highly suggest reading about Rosemary’s tragic story.

I was the actual embodiment of the praise hands emoji when I saw that Gala Darling had made a video entitled, “Is Netflix & Chill Really What You Want?” It’s all about figuring out what you actually want in a relationship which I think is a exactly where a lot of us mess up!

Guys, I’m starting my first ever blogging e-course very, very soon and I totally think you should join me. It’s all about how to “Quit Your Job to Blog” with Helene from Helene In Between. Go to her blog, check it out, and if you’re a blogger then seriously consider jumping in and joining us. I can’t wait.

I’m going to keep the blogger love going here and talk about what an incredible success the #BizBabeChat was this past Thursday. The Twitter chat, hosted by Alyssa from Yellow Birch Media, was an absolute blast this week. I loved connecting with the other Biz Babes and getting some great insight from everyone’s tweets. I already can’t wait for this Thursday’s chat, all about Pinterest! Join us around 10 pm on Thurday over on Twitter by using the #BizBabeChat hashtag, don’t be afraid to just jump in and say hi!

Ever had a Total Sorority Move article just really speak to you? Well, read how The Talking Phase is Ruining My Life and you just might.

Our generation has come up with this really awesome “getting to know you” phase of relationships that is actually some type of all-encompassing torture. The “talking” phase is basically a tiny devil on your shoulder just waiting for it to hit the fan. It’s a period of overanalyzing, overthinking, and uncertainty. Two people express interest in each other, but they aren’t exclusive. Because putting yourself through the struggles of a relationship without even being in the official relationship is our idea of a good time.

Shameless plug alert but…have you checked out My Favorite Things Giveaway? If not then you should most definitely click here and enter for a chance to win some of the awesome stuff I’m giving away to one of my awesome readers.

Well, that’s about it, Magnolias. I hope you have a wonderful rest of your weekend. I hope you get the chance to curl up and indulge in some of the fun these links have to offer.

Got a link you think I’d enjoy? Don’t be shy, just tweet me at @angelmerisa23.

Around the Web: New Moon, LC, and some Bad Blood

Sunday morning essentials

Hello, Magnolias.

I hope your day is going well, full of love and light. Mine has been pretty amazing so far. I woke up to the smell of bacon! Ahhh, is that not just the best? After breakfast I decided to relax with a book and a cup of tea but then I was warmly interrupted by little Tucker who just wanted his morning puppy cuddles. I’m always happy to oblige there.

I’ve been working so much this week that I’ve just been saving links to check back later…so while I’m winding down and going through them all I thought I’d share some of those links here with you all.

College Prepster brought us The Power of Living with Less in the form of a guest post by Maxie McCoy. Over the past month or so my mind has continually moved toward the thoughts of living minimally and Maxie may have just pushed me completely over the line.

I am obsessed with Veronica Varlow’s Tarot Horoscopes and now she’s even doing them with videos for each sign. She pulled the strength card for us Libra’s this month and her quick little video came with a serious boost of…well, everything! Strength included, that’s one of my favorite parts of Tarot.

On a similar track, Gala Darling’s New Moon Magic is one of my favorite monthly posts. I’m a little late on the new moon but I’m still going find a way to participate, you should too.

Shameless plug, but I’m in the process of revamping my Pinterest page (You should totally follow along. Hint, hint, nudge, nudge) and it’s all thanks to the fabulous Alyssa Birchfield and her Ultimate Pinterest Guide for #CreativeBizBabes. In fact, you should head over to yellowbirchmedia.com right now to sign up for her emails and get your own FREE copy of the guide.

Now for something a bit more serious. As a history nerd and avid world new follower, I’ve been aware of the Syrian Refugee Crisis for quiet a while, unsure of the logistics of it all or even what it all meant. That is until John Green (yes, that John Green) came to me with his immense understanding of all things awesome in the form of a YouTube video explaining the crisis and how it affects the world.

It’s a must watch for absolutely everyone.

Kind of hard to segway here but… if you’re a Gilmore Girls fan then you will love Bustle’s look at Gilmore Girl’s Fall Fashion Inspiration. Seriously, Fall is my favorite time in real life as well as Stars Hollow so I am completely on board with taking a little inspo from my favorite fast talking mother-daughter duo.

This week Lauren Conrad launched her LC Runway collection at New York Fashion Week and it was incredible! Get this…it’s all available at Kohl’s! How crazy is that? I’m in love with so many of the pieces but one of the best things about it is that it feels like one of my best friends has achieved a huge dream of her’s seeing as I’ve grown up with LC from her days at Laguna Beach High School, that time she didn’t go to Paris, and even her wedding!

LCTweet

Check out my favorite looks from the collection here, here, and here.

It’s never too early to get your Halloween costume in order, especially if you’re doing a good old fashion DIY. Also, I’m always down for a good group costume and what better way to spend Halloween than in your very own version of Taylor Swift’s girl gang? Brit + Co has taken care of the logistics of all that with this guide to a DIY Bad Blood Halloween.

Cinderella Inspiration

Alright guys, I might be a little late to the party but I saw Cinderella earlier this week and it absolutely blew me away.

My sister and I went on a random Wednesday night and we managed to be the only two in the theater which was fun but also creepy. We giggled and gasped the whole way through while throwing our hands in the air and being loud just like we are at home but then Mady thought she heard someone else in the theater and things got a little uneasy for a second but our fears were unfounded.

The movie in general is so magical and full of wonder that you can’t help but me inspired by it. Apparently that’s the case for a lot of people as it seems Cinderella’s touch can be seen all over the place right now.

There’s that incredibly sparkly MAC collection, which I’m sad to say is almost completely sold out online. Told you I was a little late to the party.

One thing I loved about this collection was the packaging. That signature Cinderella dusty blue is everywhere and I love it.

In fact,  I love it so much I’m practically craving that same blue hue in my own life. From my makeup to my clothes and everything in between, I’m want Cinderella everything!

Lauren Conrad’s Cinderella collection for Kohl’s is giving me life at the moment. I can definitely see this Organza Bow Dress fitting right in with the movie. Don’t even get me started on the Glass Slipper Sweater and Tulle Skirt.

Essie’s got some great “Cinderella blue” polishes too.

Oh people, please tell me you saw Lily James aka Lady Rose aka Cinderella herself at the premiere! She looked as if she stepped out of the screen and right onto the red carpet after a little bippity boppity boo magic.

Drop. Dead. Gorgeous. In Elie Saab, of course.

She also had her own pair of “glass slippers” too.

Her makeup was also epically gorgeous.

Personally, I’m not over her and Prince Charming, Kit, uh, Richard Madden together on the red carpet.

Let’s not forget the most important part…they lived happily ever after!

February Book Club Selection

Alright, Magnolias. It’s time to announce my Book Club selection for February.

Drum roll, please…

It’s L.A. Candy by Lauren Conrad.

It’s not a new release by any means but I just couldn’t resist digging into a book with a candy heart cover during February. I mean that’s kind of perfect, right?

Plus, I love Lauren Conrad and have been wanting to start the series pretty much since in came out. Which was way back in 2009 in case you were wondering.

via Glogster

I mean, who can resist a fresh faced, unmarried LC?

You can pick up the book on Amazon or be like me and read along on Oyster.

Oyster is a streaming service that’s like Netflix for books. For just $9.95 a month you get complete access to a whole library of books available to read on your computer, tablet, or phone through the Oyster app.

I’ve been reading January’s Book Club pick, The Happiness Project, on Oyster and loving every minute of it.

Some top books in their library include the entire Harry Potter series (that’s a big space saver, my friends), The Great Gatsby, and titles from Bobbi Brown & Kelly Cutrone.

I really hope you join in and don’t forget to check back tomorrow for the whole discussion on The Happiness Project.

Leave a comment below letting me know if you’ll be participating and what you think of the book.
